April MS Music & Band

We are now in the last quarter of the school year-- hard to believe!  After the preparation for the Valley Nine Music Festival performances, we now have a different focus.

Music assessments for 6th & 8th grades are coming on Tuesday, April 9th.  They consist of only 10 multiple choice questions, 4 of which involve listening examples.  All classes have been taking notes and short quizzes to prepare for the assessments.  Although the 5th & 7th grades will not be taking the Diocesan assessments, they will have an "assessment" in classes that same day.

After the assessments, the Music classes will be using keyboards for some of their classwork, and will have a "report" assignment before the end of the year.

All Band parents should have received an email about the new grading system for practice time outside of Band classes.  Since we only meet 2 days a week for 40 minutes, extra practice time is very important for the progress of all Band students.  During this last quarter, Crusader Band students (7th & 8th grades) will be working on individual goal-setting and accomplishments.  For wind instruments, this involves learning various major scales/arpeggios.  For percussionists, this involves learning some of the rudiments for snare drum, and scales/arpeggios on bells.  We have accomplished a lot this year after not having Band for one year, and I'm looking forward to getting to work with the 5th-7th Band students next year!
